| Stillwater Reservoir is located in the West Central Adirondacks, we are 28 miles north and east of the Town of Lowville or 28 miles north and west of the Village of Old Forge. Driving to Northern Lights, you will enjoy a scenic drive through the Park, the last ten miles being an unpaved road. The Northern Lights property was purchased by Frank and Jackie Rudolph in 1998 and the bed and breakfast was constructed in the tradition of a great Adirondack Camp over several years. The B&B is family occupied: our family of four plus our dog, Greta and our resident hunter, Hansel (the cat) as well as two horses Cocoa and Cloud. This labor of love has transformed the home and now includes the beginnings of a pond and perennial gardens for your enjoyment. This transformation is ongoing as the detailed interior custom woodworking designed by Frank continues to evolve, the game room project will be underway shortly, spring of 2008 will bring an outdoor patio area to the rear of the house as well as front and rear door canopies and a wrap around deck. Many birds frequent the feeders and garden year round, in the summertime, the area is a haven for hummingbirds. Those of you who venture out onto the water will likely encounter one of the many resident loons. We often see turkeys and deer at the edge of our forest as well.
The house is nestled in the woods approximately 1/4 mile away from the Reservoir. A short walk or moment in the car will bring you to the boat launch and the water's edge. Guests of Northern Lights B&B enjoy complimentary access to canoes at The Stillwater Shop which is located near the boat launch site and houses the offices of DOG Equipment Rentals. |
This area of the Adirondacks is beautiful all year round. Spring can be late in coming and is often brief. Summertime offers opportunities for mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, boating, hiking, picnicing, swimming, or just relaxing with a great book out back of the B&B! The fall brings cool nights and with warm days and winter permits one to snowshoe, cross country ski, or snowmobile. Visit our things to do page for links and more information on local activities.
Our remote location will enable you to enjoy star gazing without interference from light pollution common in metropolitan areas. A clear night offers a phenomenal star display. And yes, we have seen the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, here on several occasions.
In 2005, Northern Lights Bed and Breakfast was proud to be selected for a Business of the Year award for this area from the Central Adirondack Association.
We are also proud to be members of and inspected by the Empire State Bed and Breakfast Association.
Additional memberships: the Central Adirondack Association, CAP 21, Lewis County Chamber of Commerce and the Adirondack Land Owners Assoc.
